DITA – Arise – Black/yellow gold

A chic take on a playful 60’s classic: A subtle yet whimsical cat-eye rendered in an ultra-light technical frame. Starlets from the 60’s were just a starting point for the look of Arise, but the real story is in the techniques and technology involved in creating elegance of the silhouette and the innovation of materials used. Classically cat-eye styled frames use thick laminate acetate or injection molded frames to create the sculptural form of the design. For a more refined and architectural approach we chose milled and sculpted titanium throughout. The front or “face” of the frame was designed with a bolder titanium silhouette, which translates the attitude and character of the style in more future-facing and refined way. While the delicate temples contrast the bold face with a lightness only achieved by using among the finest Japanese titanium. The interplay of metal-on-metal titanium combinations replace the expected acetate versions and offer extra durability, lightness, and fit + finish unusual for this category of frame.

This riff on the traditionally conservative P3 silhouette features a continuous titanium wire exoskeleton that gracefully dips and meanders around titanium-cupped lens rims. The unbroken structure represents a dramatic evolution in DITA’s design vocabulary, made possible by advances in material and manufacturing processes; the undulating wire frame recalls the free-flowing strokes of sousho, a calligraphic tradition in which form supersedes readability as the artist’s brush rarely leaves the page. Haliod’s groundbreaking engineering extends all the way to its finishing touches. Custom inverted nose pads and Japanese temple tips have been engineered for effortless comfort; other finely crafted details, like the ultra thin titanium wire temple tips, flow gracefully into the frame’s exoskeleton by utilizing many of DITA’s most recognizable production techniques, such as its proprietary hex screw hinges. DITA – Mann – Black/clear

East meets West in the form of Mann, a modern frame that infuses a quintessentially American silhouette with the unique historical signature of Japanese calligraphy. The frame’s unique contrast of volume and lightness draws upon the deliberate strokes of kaisho, an ancient artistic form that requires years of practice and extraordinary discipline to be mastered. While the inspiration behind this familiar shape dates back centuries, the technology that makes it possible is state of the art and limited to only a handful of the finest Japanese eyewear manufacturers. Using DITA’s unique chemical annealing process, the lightweight acetate frame is rendered in a groundbreaking stainless steel core lamination process; the end product is 50% thinner than traditional acetate and more than twice as strong. Subtle details, such as the frame’s gently chamfered edges, evoke the harmony and elegance that distinguish kaisho’s instantly recognizable broad brush stokes.
